Happy Birthday Aoife! Palm oil-free baking

25 August, 2011 § Leave a comment

First and foremost I want to say a big ‘Happy Birthday’ to Aoife. She has been so much help keeping us going through it all and she will be coming to Beale Park later today to see a show for the first time with a real audience.

I got up early this morning to make her a palm oil-free birthday treat. I have made a banana bread and a tray of brownies from our recipes on our website. I added Choco Snaps (Tescos answer to Coco Pops), raisens and pineapple to the brownies. Then I made a cream-cheese icing and made half banana-half chocolate sandwich cake bites.

We are hoping that they will be tasty… Fingers crossed

Palm oil free yummyness

Over the weekend Aoife and I were in Ireland for her sister’s wedding and while there we found that Tesco dry roasted nuts are palm oil-free.

A much more exciting discovery is that Ritter bars (though maybe only the cornflake ones) are palm oil-free.

So more munching for rainforest-lovers

Have a great day all you monkey people

Which of Britain’s top brands contain palm oil?

22 July, 2011 § Leave a comment

Have a read of this very interesting and informative article published by The Independent. The article Palm oil in Britain’s top brands lists Britain’s top 100 brands and tells us the product’s rank, the manufacturer, sales and whether or not each product contains palm oil.

There are some interesting finds. We feed our cats Whiskas and Felix and I was delighted to know both are palm oil free!

Palm oil project threatens both people and rainforest in Cameroon

11 July, 2011 § Leave a comment

There is a plan to develop a 72,000 hectare palm oil plantation in the rainforest of Cameroon. The destruction this deforestation would cause is devastating.

Have a look at this petition siteĀ http://www.rainforest-rescue.org/ and if you have the time or the inclination, add your signature to do your bit in the attempt to prevent this loss.

Palm oil-free tastyness – brioche

26 June, 2011 § Leave a comment

Today, 9 hours into a 15 hour-day that started only a few hours after a 17 hour-day finished I was wandering in a dazed fashion through a mini-Tesco (as the nearest food and not having time to travel) and I found Tesco’s own brand chocolate brioche that are palm oil-free! Aoife and I have been looking for suitable brioche for some time so this made me feel a little bit better about the gig I was working.

4 brioche out of 6 later and I am home, in bed sharing my discovery with the world!!

Thank you to anybody who wrote to their MEPs or was part of the EU campaign in any other way. The first step to changing the legislation about the labelling of palm oil has been reached. The British representatives have agreed an amendment to the labelling laws about oils in the EU.

Next step on the continent!

Well done

Leonidas – yum!

My mom has had to listen to a lot of palm-oil related sadness (along with most of my friends). She has been pretty cool about changing some of her shopping. But the one thing she would hate to have to give up is Leonidas. But it shall not have to be so!

Leonidas is palm-oil FREEEEEEEE!

Palm oil-free Easter eggs

19 April, 2011 § Leave a comment

I found in Tesco’s the other day that most (if not all) of the Finest range of Easter eggs and cakes are palm oil-free. So enjoy the lack of guilt in this time of chocolate.

Although Green and Blacks is generally palm oil-free the butterscotch and any with raisens is not and the butterscotch is the one that they make an Easter egg of.

Oh well you win some and you lose some

Have a great Easter

Last chance to tell your MEP that you want palm oil to be labelled clearly in the EU. Just follow the quick link
